Averagely, 174GB of data monthly was used by a New Zealand household on the Chorus network.

As for the average connection speed nationwide it’s 64Mpbs.

"People’s viewing habits have shifted online. It’s now very mainstream to watch television shows and movies via an app on a smart television or tablet," Chorus’s Network Strategy Manager Kurt Rodgers said.

He also predicted strong data usage growth through 2018 and beyond.

Such sharp increases in data usage demonstrate why Kiwis should seriously consider a fibre or VDSL broadband connection. Most of the broadband providers offer an unlimited data plan. With the increased internet speeds, streaming and consuming content will be much more enjoyable.
