In November 2021, Chorus and other fibre wholesalers began offering increased speeds- they upped the 100 Mbps fibre connections to 300 Mbps for no extra charge to providers!
What the Commerce Commission found out through their Measuring Broadband New Zealand report released today was that these speeds were transferred straight to consumers!
So, to put it simply, it means that providers can now offer 300 Mbps broadband plans for the SAME PRICE as 100 Mpbs plans!!
This results in consumers getting a bump up in internet speeds without having to pay a single cent more on their broadband plan!
“It’s great to see these higher speeds now flowing through to our reported results, which show that average download speeds have increased to 314 Mbps,” said Tristan Gilbertson (Telecommunications Commissioner).
It’s awesome to see Kiwis getting the fastest internet speeds without having to pay more! Wicked!!
We think all consumers deserve the fastest speeds! So it was equally encouraging to see the report outline that the speeds for the HFC Max plan only offered by Vodafone had returned back to its normal speeds. This is great as the Commerce Commission and their independent testing partner SamKnows (who developed this report) reached out to Vodafone after seeing in their spring report for 2021 that the speeds on this plan had decreased by 50%.
